Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first free kick goal for Juventus over the weekend
Portuguese forward, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal directly from a free kick in a Juventus shirt as the Serie A leaders overcame Torino to extend their lead at the top to 7 points.
Ronaldo had attempted 42 free kicks since joining the Italian side in 2018, but failed to find the back of the net with any of those attempts. The run saw him face criticism from rival fans especially as Lionel Messi was hit the target with his own free kicks for Barcelona. Fans won’t stop trolling the 35 year old for his lack of free kick goals for Juventus.
UPDATE: MESSI EQUALS RONALDO’S FREE KICK RECORD (STATS)
The moment Cristiano Ronaldo scored from a direct free kick against Torino on Saturday, some fans were quick to point out that Lionel Messi had scored 15 goals from free kicks since the last time Ronaldo scored a free kick goal. That must be some stats. But do you know that despite Messi’s prolific run from free kicks, Ronaldo still has more goals from direct free kicks than him?
When someone does something great or overcomes a bad run, he should be celebrated with, not taunted like goal are doing with Ronaldo. The same goal tweeted last night how incredible Messi was for providing 2 assists. Isn’t that laughable considering that Kevin De Bruyne does that all the time?
Rather than draw unfavourable comparisons in a biased manner, why don’t we just appreciate the good things Ronaldo and Messi both do on the pitch. Don’t forget that Ronaldo is 2 and half years older than Messi, meaning that we shouldn’t expect him to be firing on all cylinders like he was a few years back.
Record breaking goal
Meanwhile, Cristiano’s goal was his 25th Serie A goal of the season, making him the first player to score 25 league goals in a season for Juventus since 1966. The former Real Madrid forward will be looking to add more to those 25 Serie A goals before the end of the season.
With 450 goals in 438 appearances, Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s all time La Liga top scorer.
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored the most goals from direct free kicks, more than any other active player. He slightly edges Lionel Messi. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 55 goals from direct free kicks while Lionel Messi has 52.
