1. Amsterdam Science Talent Scholarship (ASTS)

The Amsterdam Science Talent Scholarship (ASTS) is a scholarship that has been created in order to help or support talented students who cannot bear the financial weight that comes with study costs.

If you eventually become a successful awardee of this program, you get to receive a scholarship of € 15,000 for one academic year but there is also a possibility of extension for a second year (for two-year Master’s programs). You should note that for students who started with the ASTS in the previous year, other amounts apply.

Requirements

Before you go ahead and apply for the Amsterdam Science Talent Scholarship (ASTS), you must:

  • have been (or will be) admitted for the first time to one of the MSc programs at the University of Amsterdam
  • not receive or have received a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as this scholarship
  • have a quality letter of motivation
  • have already submitted a complete application to one of the MSc programs

2. Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS)

The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS) is a scholarship that is dedicated to coverage of tuition fees and part of the living expenses of a successful awardee. If you eventually get awarded this scholarship, you get to enjoy its benefits for one academic year with the possibility of an extension for a second year (for two-year Master’s programs).

This scholarship is for outstanding students from countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

Requirements

Before you go ahead and apply for the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS), you must:

  • not hold nationality from one of the countries of the EU/EEA or Suisse
  • not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of loans and study grants
  • have in no longer than 3 years ago, completed their previous academic program
  • not be eligible to pay the reduced tuition fee rate for EEA students at the University of Amsterdam
  • hold a GPA equivalent of 3.5 (American system, 4-point scale) or 1st class honors/ upper division (British system)
  • have already submitted a complete application to one of the MSc programs and have been (or will be) admitted for the first time to one of the MSc programs at the UvA
  • agree and be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa (if applicable)

Application deadline

The deadline for application to the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS) is on the 15th of January.

3. Amsterdam Physics and Astronomy Scholarship (APAS)

For those who are aspiring to study in the physics and astronomy field, then this is for you. The Amsterdam Physics and Astronomy Scholarship (APAS) program will be given talented students a scholarship of € 5,000. This scholarship will be for one academic year with the possibility of an extension for a second year (P&A is a two-year program).

The Amsterdam Physics and Astronomy Scholarship (APAS) is also for students in the joint degree Master’s in Physics and Astronomy only.

Requirements

Before you go ahead and apply for the Amsterdam Physics and Astronomy Scholarship (APAS), you must:

  • hold a convincing motivational letter
  • hold a GPA equivalent of 3.5 (American system, 4-point scale) or 1st class honors/ upper division (British system)
  • have proof of English proficiency
  • not receive a full coverage scholarship for the same period of study as the APAS
  • have submitted a complete application to one of the MSc programs and have been (or will be) admitted for the first time to one of the MSc programs at the University of Amsterdam.
