Lionel Messi could not hold his tears as he bid the Barcelona crowd farewell on Sunday morning. The Argentine magician broke into tears during an institutional press conference organized by the Barca authorities.
It marked the end of Messi’s long stay at Barcelona. Lionel Messi began his professional career in Barcelona back in 2003 and since then it’s been one heck of a stellar career he’s had. It’s shocking to apparently everyone that his stay in Catalonia has finally come to an end. Especially coming when it was least expected.
Speaking on Sunday, Messi said:
“This is really difficult for me after so many years spent here – my entire life. I’m not ready for this”
The reality that he’d not be entertaining the Barcelona crowd again down on Messi and everyone as he confirmed that it was all over.
“I am not coming back to train, I am not coming back to the pitch. I am not coming back. And yes this is the end at this club. This is the most difficult moment of my career”
Several media reports have linked Messi with a move to Paris Saint-Germain as he is believed to have had direct contact with the Ligue 1 giants. Leo confirmed that there’s indeed been contact with PSG.
“Paris Saint-Germain is a possibility, yes. At the moment nothing is confirmed, I received lot of calls after Barcelona statement. We’re talking about it”.
Barca exit not premeditated —Messi
A picture of Messi together with some PSG players had been circulating all over the internet and social media. Asked whether his Barca exit was premeditated, Messi said
“The pic with Paris Saint-Germain was a coincidence, completely. I was there with my friends, we decided to take a photo… they told me: ‘Come to Paris!’ but it was just a joke, we were on holiday”.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Messi’s father Jorge Messi and his lawyers are negotiating with Paris St-Germain and a deal is likely on the cards. Messi is set to receive a reported fee of €35m per year and will sign a two years contract with an option to extend till 2024.
