Chelsea continued to show why they should be considered serious title contenders this season, by seeing off Arsenal at the Emirates stadium on Sunday. The Blues beat their London rivals 2-0 leaving the Gunners without a goal or point so far this season.
After loosing to Premier League newcomers Brentford in their opening fixture, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal had their work cut out for them. Don’t lose to Chelsea must have been the wish of the home crowd who couldn’t help but boo the team.
Lukuku scores first Chelsea goal
New summer marque signing Romelu Lukaku who arrived from Inter Milan, re-announced himself with a debut goal on a day that Chelsea outclassed their London rivals to go top of the Premier League table. On the back of a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, Chelsea put in a decent show to see off their seemly clueless London rivals. The win takes Thomas Tuchel’s men to the top of the table, with 5 goals scored and zero conceded.
Pulisic absent but no problems
Their might have been worries in the Blue camp when it was reported that Christian Pulisic would miss the game due to coronavirus. With Ziyech also a doubt before kickoff, Chelsea’s depth was going to be tested. However, Tuchel pulled one out of his bag of tricks, opting to play without a winger. Even Werner and Kante were left out of the starting eleven. Thomas Tuchel’s tactical tweak proved effective as Lukaku constantly kept the Arsenal defense busy.
Italian midfielder Jorginho was impressive throughout the match, spraying out passes to the flanks for the wingbacks. Jorginho is in contention for the UEFA POTY award alongside Kante and Kevin De Bruyne. Kante maybe favourite but Jorge is certainly proving his worth.
