The 2020/2021 Premier League season begins in 7 days time, and most clubs are already rounding up preseason preps. Liverpool pull off a thrilling comeback to beat Blackpool 7-2 on Saturday afternoon, on the same day that Tottenham were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Watford. West Ham were also beaten by another Championship side, Bournemouth 5-3 it ended. Looking at some of the top teams and their respective squads, it looks like were going to be in for a cracking Premier League season.
Liverpool haven’t changed a bit from the side that romped to the title last season by a clear margin. The way in which they saw off Blackpool is a testament to what is to be expected from the Champions this season. They are rumored to be looking to add Thiago Alcantara to their squad before the window closes.
Top title contenders
They will be facing stiff competition from some of the league’s top teams.
Manchester City who were runners up last season, have bolstered their squad this transfer window, adding Nathan Ake to their ranks in defence. They have also brought in Spanish winger, Ferran Torres from Valencia. Pep Guardiola would be expected to deliver the goods this season and return City to the top of the domestic football.
Chelsea have also shown their keen interest in the title and are expected to be genuine contenders. The blues have gone all out with their checkbook this summer and landed their targets. Kai Harvertz is the latest addition to what is already a fierce looking attack, one that Premier league defenders will be wary of this season. Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell have also been added at the back for the West London side as they look to revitalise their defence.
United are also expected to be up there among the challengers. The red devils have not won the title in any of the last 7 years, and the pressure is now on Solkjaer to guide the Mancunians to the title. They are looking to add the attacking talent of Jadon Sancho to their team having already brought in Donny van de Beek this summer. Dean Henderson will spend the season at Old Trafford in order to rival David De Gea for first team spot.
Outside challengers
While the teams above are considered as the main challengers for the title, there are a few others that could also have a go at the the title this season.
Tottenham Hotspur are one of those teams that could cause problems for the big guns this season. They are also a top side, and would hope to move on from last season’s below par display. I expected Jose Mourinho’s men to mount a challenge for the title this season.
Arsenal already have one trophy in the bag this season. They would look to add more silverware to that community shield which they won by beating Liverpool earlier this month. The gunners have shown last season that they can be a match for any side in the Premier League. It would be no surprise if they turnout frontrunners for the title at some point during the season. Leicester City only narrowly missed out on UCL qualification last season. They spent most of the season in the top three and were just unlucky to end up in 5th place. This season the foxes would be looking to do better, have done it before, they can of course so it again.
Conclusion
Over all, the league is going to be really tough this season. No one is going to run away with the title like Liverpool did last season. The title race will likely go down to the wire.
