Italian Football Federation (FIGC) honours Rossi
The flags are lowered to half mast today at the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) headquarters in Rome in honour of the deceased Paolo Rossi. News of the Azzurri legend’s death broke out when late on Wednesday when an Italian state TV report Erenrico Varriale tweeted that Rossi had died aged 64.

Rossi won the Ballon Do’r in 1982 after his six goals helped Italy to World Cup glory in Spain, also taking home the player of the tournament award. He scored a memorable hat trick against Brazilian in the quarter finals as Italy ran out 3-2 winners in Barcelona. His two more goals against Poland helped secure a 2-0 semi final win, while he scored the opening goal in a 3-1 win over West Germany in the final. His exploits earning him the nickname “Pablito”.
Paolo Rossi died today at the age of 64. The Italian strikers performance in World Cup ‘82 is still the stuff of legend. He scored six goals in the final three games of that tournament.

Moment of silence in Europa League for Rossi
UEFA have announced that “a moment of silence” will be observed before kickoff in all of Thursday night’s Europa League matches as tribute to the former Juventus and AC Milan striker.
A moment of silence will be held at all UEFA matches today, following the death of Italy’s World Cup hero, Paolo Rossi.
Top scorer at the 1982 tournament, Rossi netted 20 times in 48 matches for the Azzurri.
