Tottenham and Chelsea squared off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday night.

Chelsea overcame their London neighbours to claim all three points on the night. The Blues were dominant for pretty much the whole of the game as Jose Mourinho opted for a more conservative approach. The hosts attempted just 3 shots the entire 90 minutes with 2 of those on targets.

Chelsea had the lion share of possession but did not make much of it, mustering just 2 shots on target, albeit having 18 attempts. Thomas Tuchel would be thankful that Jorginho converted his first half penalty, else the Blues would have been left to rue not making better use of their chances.

Jorginho gave Chelsea the lead from the spot after the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors. It was for a tackle on Timo Werner in the box, although it appeared Eric Dier might have won the ball cleanly. There was no VAR review however, and Jorginho steeped up to tuck it in, this time avoiding his usual hop and skip during his run up.

Chelsea had chances to extend their lead in both halves, but Hudson-Odoi and Mount couldn’t get their shots on target. James and Werner were denied shooting chances by Dier. Mason Mount should have put the game beyond Spurs’ reach late in the second half. The youngster’s lovely turn left Dier in no man’s land but he was denied by a fine Hugo Lloris save.

Spurs rallied late on to find an equalizer but couldn’t find anyway through Chelsea’s defense or Edouard Mendy.
