Declan Rice and Erling Haaland are Chelsea’s January top transfer targets
Chelsea invested heavily on players during the last transfer window following a period of inactivity due to the transfer ban. The Blues are still not where they would love to be, as they still find themselves behind Liverpool and the likes. Frank Lampard is expected to go after a couple of players this January in order to consolidate his side for a genuine title charge.
Erling Haaland
Chelsea were among the front runners for Jadon Sancho’s signature during the summer but now turned their attention to another Dortmund forward. Sky pundit Angelo Mangiante, reckons that Chelsea have switched their focus to Erling Braut Haaland. The 20 year old Norwegian striker has continued to rewrite the record books in 2020 and is likely to take his hot form into the new year.
Potential outgoings at #Chelsea:
Rudiger, Christensen, Jorginho, Marcos Alonso, Barkley, Drinkwater, Moses (on loan Spartak Moscow).
Two main goals in summer for #CFC:
1) Erlin #Haaland
2) Declan #Rice @SkySport #Transfers— Angelo Mangiante (@angelomangiante) December 22, 2020
Frank Lampard has a lot of attacking options at his beckon but injuries and lack of form has limited the manager’s choices in the attacking positions. Chelsea have had to use Timo Werner on the wings following a series of injuries to main wingers Pulisic, Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi. This leaves them to just 35 years old Giroud and 23 years old Tammy Abraham in the number 9 position. Halaand has been nothing short of outstanding since arriving on the big stage. He has scored 24 goals for club and country this season and recently won the Golden boy award for 2020. He would be a good fit for the Premier League. It is not clear if Dortmund would be willing to sanction a move for the striker just yet, but if they do, club’s would have to battle it out for his signature.
Declan Rice
Another top transfer target for Chelsea going into 2021 is Declan Rice. The West Ham midfielder has been a long term target for Chelsea, and it is understood that the Blues will go all out for his signature this winter. Frank Lampard is looking to boost his options in midfield, with a couple of the current crop likely to move away from Stamford Bridge this window. Jorginho is one of the regulars who may be heading for the exit this January and the Blues have identified Declan Rice as a potential replacement for the Italian. Rice has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. He is versatile and has played in central defense a couple of times. Chelsea are looking for a player of his qualities to either partner with or provide competition and backup for N’golo Kante, as the Frenchman is currently the only natural defensive midfielder in their ranks.
