EURO2020 is still on but transfer business is not taking a back seat. Clubs are busy in the market and many players are becoming subjects of increasing transfer speculations.
Lyon forward Memphis Depay, on international duty with the Netherlands is reportedly interested in a move away from France, with Chelsea, & Man City identified as one of the likely destinations.
Reporters have dug up an old story in which Depay hinted that he was keen to move to a bigger club. The Dutchman named Chelsea as one of the clubs he would like to play for back in 2019.
“I want a new transfer to a top-level club this summer. Lyon is a big club but it’s not one of the five best in Europe. I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich” Depay said in 2019.
Depay apparently wants to challenge for titles and although Lyon have improved from what they were in 2019, the forward may still be keen for a transfer.
“I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football.”
Barcelona are reportedly in contact with the player’s camp for a possible transfer, and Depay has confirmed Barcelona contact in recent weeks.
